Favourite Finds – Eco by Sonya Coconut + Mint Body Wash

January 19, 2015

I first stumbled upon the Eco by Sonya brand when I was researching alternatives to conventional fake tans. Perhaps I should clarify that – on one of my many adventures to the health food store looking for a chemical-free alternative to common tanning products, I discovered Eco Tan.

Founded by Sonya Driver in 2011, her product Eco Tan Invisible Tan was launched out of a very personal desire to create Australia’s first Organic tanning product.

With many successful years creating tanning products, Sonya has diversified the range, adding body based products including deodorants, moisturisers and sunscreens. Today, we have the pleasure of getting intimate with her Coconut and Mint body wash.

Yes, the old faithful body wash is a staple of most female body product collections, but 99% of what is lining the supermarket shelves is not worth your dollar. Yes it may foam, and have this unnatural ‘natural’ fragrance that lures you in, but beautiful sadly that’s the chemicals doing their magic. I’ve tried and tested many a natural body washes over the years so I was pretty excited to discover this little number through Nourished Life.

The facts: Let us start with why it fits our criteria?

  • Certified Organic Australia by the Organic Food Chain, Certified Toxic Free by Safe Cosmetics Australia, 100% Vegan, and contains 80% Certified Organic Ingredients.
  • Australian Made and Owned
  • Suitable for all skin types

The verdict?

This body wash smells amazing, the mint scent is not too overpowering and when teamed with hints of coconut you have the perfect summer fusion. A natural scent always gets the vote from me!

I was pleased to see a mild foam, with a light oily feeling which meant that it wasn’t going to dry out my skin like most conventional products do. And I am pleased to report that I didn’t notice any drying.

The most appealing thing about the body wash is that it is very mild, making it a great option for men, women and the kids. One of the intentions of Sonya’s range is that all the products can be used together without spoiling the effectiveness of one another. This is especially true for a body wash when used post fake tan application. Although I didn’t have the chance to use the two together, I can imagine it would be a suitable combination.

Would I indulge again?

I am a big friend of fresh smelling body washes and one that will appeal to both myself and my husband. In that respect it was perfect. However, after several washes, my gut feeling was that it just didn’t pack the punch I was hoping for. And sadly even hubby said the same.

Prior to getting my hands on the Eco By Sonya body wash, I was using a long time friend from North America (one of the few non-Australian’s in my beauty cabinet), which for me is ahead of the Eco By Sonya body wash due to its consistency. The Eco one just felt much more watery.

For those beauties out there with sensitive skin and not used to be oil-based products then Eco by Sonya Organic Coconut and Mint body wash is worth your dollar.
