Feminine or Masculine? How do we use them in the art of decision making

February 27, 2018

I had a question from a client in the last week around feminine embodiment that threw me a little.

It threw me because in reflecting on how I operate day to day to day, although I would consider myself fairly attune to the feminine (and a more embodied approach), much of my life is takes on masculine qualities.

To be perfectly honest, for me to operate solely from the feminine, drive my decisions from this place is not easy for me, and possibly for you too?

I’ve had to really make it a conscious practice to balance the feminine with the masculine. It literally has looked like scheduling in feminine, yin style practices into my life.

One place I look to explore this duality, and over time, feel my way more through life is decision-making.

The very nature of our city lifestyle, our work and influence of the media mean our ability to use the feminine qualities to inform our decisions is not as natural as someone who is perhaps raised in Eastern culture or in the country where being amongst mother nature is a given.

I want to first establish that neither the masculine nor the feminine are either good or bad, however, generally most women will tell me that the identify easier with problem-solving, analysis, rational masculine decision making qualities.

We feel like we can “trust” this side more because it speaks in a language & messages that that we most commonly, so we employ this over our innate feminine wisdom.

Unfortunately, for women, where we come unstuck, is that it often leaves our minds burdened with thoughts, which can lead to us being driven by external forces of comparison and competition.

Meanwhile or feminine side is full of:

Creativity, heart, intuition. Guidance comes through powerfully in the quiet. We think grand and big picture, but it can also involve chaos and letting go.

When we are guided by this internal wisdom we feel a sense of wholeness. Ironically, many women may feel more assertive, more self-assured in the long run.

Today’s video is about inquiry rather than wisdom you can take and run, so I’m throwing the questions over to you. When it comes to making a decision:

– Which side would you tend (masculine or feminine) towards when making decisions?

– Do use a combination of both? What practices allow you to use both?

AND if decisions are feeling like your strong suit right now, perhaps these tips on reducing overwhelm will help!
