Do you notice a change in your skin lately?

Are you dreaming of getting your Summer glow back?

Today you are in luck beauty because I have 3 little changes you can make that will bring back the glow. And I know they work!

With the cooler months well and truly upon us here Australia, our bodies respond to the weather in a few different ways. If you are like me, I feel my skin getting dryer, my lips, my hair and internally my body echoes the same as I do anything to keep warm.

Perhaps you are also like me and you’re hiding those unshaven legs under your yoga pants? lucky my husband hasn’t said anything yet!…shhhh it’s our little secret. But I’m sure you know there’s nothing worse than peeling off your clothes to realise that your skin could do with a good buff and polish.

While you can lather on the moisturiser, a few simple changes to your diet can also go a long way. That’s where my 3 secrets come in.

Morning beauty rituals – the art of oil pulling

Oil pulling - with text

Beauties! Have you heard the fuss lately around oil pulling?

It seems all the “whose who” of the wellness industry are all into it, and if they’re are doing it then there’s a good chance it probably works. When it comes to improving your health and wellbeing, life is one big self-experiment right? In our household that is certainly a mantra. And so the oil-pulling journey began…

I’ve always had a strong fascination for Eastern medicine, especially the realms of Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Herbal medicine. For me personally, medicinal practices that have a few thousand year history should have a complimentary place in the Western world. I knew if oil pulling originated in one of those two realms, there’s a good chance it is well founded, and well, it probably works.

Coconut oil – The most universal oil in the pantry

December 9, 2013

You may have noticed from a recent post that A Conscious Beauty is a pretty nuts about coconut especially for the positive effect this good fat has on our insides. If that wasn’t enough proof, today we want to blow you away with what this wondrous little oil can do for our outer beauty.

In our household, the main way we use coconut oil externally is by applying it direct to the skin as a simple moisturiser. I love to use a more fragrant brand of oil because when I apply it to my skin, the smell is a lovely little reminder of our island holidays. Coconut oil is also great for treating moisture loss with our hair. Spoil yourself once in a while by applying the oil to the ends of your hair as a simple (and cheap) deep-conditioning hair mask.

Why we are nuts about coconut

What is coconut oil?

If any of you know me well, you will know that I am pretty obsessed with this humble oil. As I write this, I am super excited to be letting you in on a 5000 year old secret that in some cultures is known as ‘the tree of life’ or ‘the tree of a thousand uses’. In our household, this oil is easily the most diverse food we consume and apply to our skin on a daily basis. So much so, I have taken to keeping a jar of coconut oil in the bathroom as my go to moisturiser.

I discovered this little gem of a food about 4 years ago, with the help of a Naturopath and close friends Chris and Nicky Jones of Primal Movement. At the time, I made a choice to seriously clean up my diet in an effort to overcome serious allergies. I drew from the principles behind paleo and primal living, which quickly led me to coconut oil.
