How I want to feel…2014…and goal setting
As 2013 draws to a close, I often use this time to reflect on the year that was, achievements, highs, lows, wins and losses. I also use this time, as I’m sure many of you may also, to think about my goals – framing a picture of the ultimate year to come.
Over the coming week, A Conscious Beauty will be setting our own individual goals, as well as getting clear on our milestones for this space. We thought this would be the perfect time to let you in on a few tips as to what the goal setting process looks like for us.
Goal setting is an important tool in creating a life you love, but we often neglect to think about how we might actually feel once we have achieved x, or purchased y or experienced z. Some goals are often measured by attainment of material objects, as we think that this tangible item will equal success. While goal setting is not to be discouraged, the most important question is, do these goals reflect how you want to wake up and feel every day?
In her book, the Fire Starter Sessions, Danielle calls this list of feelings your ‘core desired feelings’. Danielle’s approach is simple and thoughtful, she suggests creating a list of several feelings and reviewing them over the course of a week. If you listen closely, you will start to hone in on a few that really resonate with you. Whatever feelings you decide to be your core list, do not judge them or analyse them, they should come from within.
Once your core feelings are established, Danielle guides you through a process of re-creating those feelings on a daily basis. Imagine if you did something daily that enabled you to feel the same way you would feel once you achieved that big hairy scary goal? Imagine how supercharged you will be, every day! I have found the magic also works in reverse, because knowing how I want to feel every day, can inform what my goals might look like. My goals are much more intuitive, they now have clarity and purpose.
So, all this talk about feelings and you are probably wondering what are the feelings that guide my life and goal setting?
