Girl Crush – Introducing Angela Simson

January 12, 2015

We admit it, we have a Girl Crush on this beauty – Angela Simson..

Why a Conscious Beauty LOVE’s Angela:

Gratitude. It is one of the staple practices in our lives. And for Angela it is a non-negotiable and a vital component of her strategy for living a fulfilled life. Yes, you can see why we are crushin’ – a woman seriously singing the same tune, loud and clear.

This gorgeous lady is a self-proclaimed, self-love junkie, and did we mention that she is also a health coach, speaker, blogger and mumma to the angelic Bo?  After what Katherine poignantly calls ‘falling down the (Instagram) rabbithole’ one day, we just couldn’t get enough of Angela and little Bo. Not a day goes by that her words of gratitude aren’t jumping off the images in her feed. The juxtaposition of Bo’s innocence with Angela’s wisdom creates the perfect recipe (in our eyes) for living an inspiring life.

And now from the beauty herself:

Tell us about your brand’s vision:

I want the Gratitude Project to be a space where people go and become inspired to live their absolute best life.  I want to lift people up so they can see their own light and amazingness.  I want people to take care of themselves first and know that by being their best self, they have more to give to those they love.

What makes your brand unique? What are ‘must-haves’ for your brand?

Must haves would be gratitude, a positive mindset, a desire to be authentically who you want to be and a need for nourishment in all areas of your life.  A complete faith that by being who you know you want to be, you’re fulfilling your purpose in this world.

The best way would be family time.  When things are getting a little busy or hectic it’s so good to just ground myself with the people who make my world complete.  It’s as simple as rolling around on the floor with Hugh and Bo or heading down to Byron for the day and watching our little girl run around and enjoy being somewhere new for the day.  There is nothing more warming to my heart then being with those two and it really is the best nourishment I could ask for.

What are you most grateful for in your life?

So. Many. Things.  This would be the hardest question anyone could ever ask me.  I’m obviously grateful mostly for my husband.  We’ve been together since I was 17 and he’s such a big part of the person I am today, he helped me grow and always nurtured me through the changes of becoming an adult, a wife and now a mother.  And without him we wouldn’t have Bo!  But then in my eyes the whole picture interlaces and I’m grateful for all these other things, big and small.  Our home, the beach, fresh organic food and clean water, our friends and family.  Without all the little things life would be so different, because it’s all the bits that come together and make a life.

What has been your greatest ah-ha moment/turning point in your life to date?

I’ve had a few!  My first appointment with a naturopath when she explained what additives and preservatives were doing to my body.  Learning to eat whole food from the earth changed my life.  Pain went away, my mind cleared and I became capable of so much more.  Then deciding to study and start the Gratitude Project.  It was a moment that I was completely unprepared for but I just dove in head first and they are two of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself.

How do you live consciously? / Any tips for living consciously?

Living consciously to me means being aware of all aspects of your being.  It means respecting your body enough to eat food that nourishes and helps it to thrive.  Loving the environment enough to use products on your skin and around your home that won’t negatively effect the world.  I think people don’t realise how much is going down the drain into our waterways and we are slowly poisoning this amazing ocean we have.  I always have it in the back of my mind that one day, mother nature will present her bill to us and I want to do my part to make sure that it’s not too drastic!  Then finally, living consciously in your mind is one of the most important parts of my life.  I believe you need a mental filtration system that blocks the bad from getting in and also a purifier that can clean our any negative thoughts that slip by.  You can’t have an amazing fulfilled blissful life if you’re constantly thinking bad thoughts about yourself and others.  Having a daily gratitude practise is a huge help in this area!

How do you give back & support others?

I’d like to hope that the Gratitude Project is some type of support for my readers.  I do what I can from there to help people really look at their life and situations in the best light possible and hopefully nourish themselves from the inside out.  I recently created an e-book called 30 Days of Self Care which is free for my readers to download from the site.  My goal in making this was to help people start loving themselves enough to take time out each day to do something completely selfishly for their own wellbeing.

What does it mean to be authentically you?

I learnt recently about a concept called fitting out.  It’s where you don’t worry about fitting in, don’t eat something that doesn’t align with your beliefs because you don’t want to be different, don’t wear clothes that you don’t love because they’re in fashion.

Fit out.  Be completely individual and speak out for what you believe.  If you want to be different, do it.

By being yourself you end up attracting people who align with you in a positive way, and the people you might be trying to impress by acting unauthentically will eventually drift away.  Fill your heart and surround yourself with things, people and places that represent you and who you want to be.  It’ll all fall into place when you do this.

If this beauty and her approach to living is resonating, then we suggest you check out her site The Gratitude Project or follow her on Instagram @gratitude_project.
