Does this story sound familiar to you?

As a child you would sneakily disguise chocolate cake baking as a way to consume the batter rather than produce a cake from it? Those childhood memories were brought to life when I discovered Haconut Original Organic Body Scrub only a few months ago. You’re in for a treat because this scrub smells so good you’ll be tempted to eat more than you scrub with it.

Funny that, because 90% of the ingredient list is actually edible.

The Haconut brand was born out of a desire to create a unique product that wasn’t based around coffee – a market dominated by the likes of Frank Body. They rose to meet the challenge thanks to the discovery of ground coconut husks which they believed matched the exfoliating properties of their caffeinated sisters.

After creating their cult fave – The Original Organic Body scrub they introduced a raw cocao based scrub, lip balm and a salt spray. Essentially, you’ll never have to leave Summer behind. But today, I’m all Original, so let’s start ‘living outside our shell’ and find out why this little gem is my latest favourite find.

The facts: why Haconut products fit the conscious beauty criteria?

// No artificial colours or fragrances

// Haconut donates 10% of profits to Mercy Ships, a charity that provides accessible healthcare to developing nations

// Made with Certified Organic Coconut Oil and Coconut Flakes

// Minimal packaging

So what’s my personal verdict? (the juicy bit)

Unlike previous scrubs I’d reviewed which are centred around a sugar base for the exfoliation, the Haconut scrub uses coconut shell powder. Although containing a small amount of coconut sugar, the advantage of the coconut shell was that the scrub didn’t dissolve quite as easily. It was much easier to create an all over body experience.

After showering, my skin felt silky smooth and nourished. With coconut oil as one of the key ingredients, I did find a light residue on my skin. Hot and important tip: if you live in a cooler climate, be sure to run hot water continuously for a period of time to ensure your drains don’t clog! The ladies of Haconut note that the scrub can be used on the facial area, but to remove any coconut oil residue, follow with a cleanser and take care if your skin is sensitive.

Ingredient Spotlight: macadamia nut oil – is a excellent option for use in cosmetics due to it’s oxidative stability as well as being naturally moisturising. Macadamia Oil has natural anti-inflammatory properties and contains Omega 7 which is found in the skin’s sebum but diminishes as we age. Perfect for restoring skin damaged by the elements.

Would I indulge again?

Hands down, the smell of this scrub is winning me over. I literally feel like I’m scrubbing my body with a chocolate brownie – now you know my weakness.

The only hitch is the miles this small package would need to travel to get to Australian shores where I am based. For this reason I would consider buying several packets as gifts or a years supply all for me! With no preservatives for a long shelf life, the scrub will last around a month once opened if applied a couple of times per week.
